diet and pregnancy
So of course, being in this www dot diagnoseyourself dot com world we live in, I’m somewhat concerned that I may have developed a condition called PCOS or Polycystic ovary syndrome. Symptoms include:
Irregular or no menstrual periods (yes, although most likely a result of the misscarriage last summer)
weight gain, (I gained about 7lbs while I was out of work over the summer/fall)
acne, (out of control since I went off the pill a year ago)
oily skin, (hand in hand with the acne)
dandruff, (I’ve always had dandruff)
infertility, (obviously since I haven’t ovulated since the misscarriage)
skin discolorations, (nope)
high cholesterol levels, (couldn’t tell you if I did since I’ve never been tested)
elevated blood pressure, and (ditto)
abnormal hair growth and distribution (no, thank god!)
And while I only have a few of the symptoms, and while the symptoms I do have are not alarmimg to me, I do feel the need to take some of the advice that I’ve found on the net to reverse the end result of this possible diagnosis, namely, infirtility due to lack of ovulation.
The one thing that the net seems to recommend the most is that if I were to lose 5 – 10% of my body weight, it could correct the problems that I’ve been having with my cycle over the past 6 months. No, I haven’t seen a Dr. about it. By the time I had finally booked an appointment to figure out why I hadn’t had a period since the misscarriage, my period finally came (2 weeks ago). Now, as I wait to see if I will ovulate this month, I’ve been doing research on improving my diet (since it’s unlikely I’ll be getting any kind of excercise anytime soon) to see if I can drop a few of the spare tires around my waist. And it’s not even a diet really, more like I’m trying to be better about making healthier choices for hubby and I while I wait to see if I drop an egg this month or not.
Long story short…If all is going well, the egg is due to pop by the end of this week. I’ll give it until the end of the month to show. If it doesn’t, it’s back to the Dr. I go.
