So the scan went very well today. Well, as well as can be expected considering the baby was face down through most of it. It took the u/s tech forever to get very many good angles to take the measurements.
So this was the anatomy scan. The baby’s arms, legs, heart, head, abdomen and internal organs were all scanned and measured. All is well! The baby is measuring right on target at 18w6d. Yay! Heart beat was 150bpm.
That’s the boring stuff. Here’s the fun stuff, in no particular order.
- The baby was moving all over today. Always in the wrong direction of course
. That’s my kid! - Got to see the hands, ribs, spine (so cool!)
- Legs were crossed so we probably would have had a crap time finding out the sex if we had tried.
- We saw the baby opening and closing his/her mouth several times. Even stuck it’s tongue at us (hehe!)
- For most of the scan baby hid it’s face behind one hand, and had that hand and side of it’s face smushed up against the placenta, making good profile shots difficult to get.
- The profile shots we did get were mostly cheek and nose side shots. Still, the kid was practically holding a conversations all on it’s own in there, breathing amniotic fluid in and out, opening and closing its mouth. So cool!
- Got a great shot of the heart. We could actually see the chambers of the heart beating and the valves opening and closing!
- By the end of the scan the kid was probably tired of getting poked and prodded and was lying face down with his/her back to us so we could no longer see the face. As a thanks for nothing when the scan was over, kid gave me a good solid kick to let me know he/she was unimpressed with the intrusion (sorry baby!) But it was totally worth it.
There was probably more to the scan, but I can’t remember right now.
It totally sucks that hubby couldn’t make it. I hope I get to have at least one more scan before the baby’s born so that he can have that experience. This one was so much better than the 12 week scan.
My next appointment is a regular check up with my OB for blood pressure, weight, probably blood and urine too. I’ll also get the NT scan and Triple Screen results. But according to the u/s tech, all looks well, there was nothing out of the ordinary.
Look at me, I’m a normal pregnant woman. Who’d a thunk it!
And……… what you’ve been waiting for…….PICTURES!!!
